PodCast:

Chapter 1 tells of how important UDL is especially with todays diverse population and a higher learning standards.
Book:  Talks about the wonderful curriculum implemented in Concord, New Hampshire public schools giving the students choices on how to complete projects.

Chapter 2 ~ “What Brain Research Tells us about Learner Differences” ~ talks about specific areas in the brain and how they work.  Explains why you need to use different ways to teach children.
Book:  Reinforces background knowledge for students success in learning.

Chapter 3 ~ “Why We Need Flexible Instruction Media” ~ Explains the difference of Fixed Media vs Flexible Media i.e. spoken vs written
Book:  Mentions the advantages and disadvantages of speech.

Chapter 4 ~ “What is Universal Design for Learning” ~ The design came from the architecture field.  New buildings were designed for people who have special needs.  Assess students in various ways.  (That makes so much sense!!)

Chapter 5 ~ talks about approaching goals and what they should involve.

Chapter 6 ~   “Using UDL to Support  Every Student’s Learning.” ~ How to reach the goals so that every student is included.  How to build curriculum.

Chapter 7 ~ How do we assess appropriately.

Chapter 8 ~ “Making Universal Design for Learning a Reality.” ~ Talks about how UDL is difficult to implement, the roles people play, and outside resources that are available.
